Now I really feel like I'm particpating in the Olympics. We were once again blanketed by snow. I'm pretty sure there was a centimeter of snow. (in my olympic canadianism I go metric)
Well, today I was moved to tears. The Canadian men won gold in curling, as I'm sure you've heard. At the post game ceremony some kid sang a very moving version of New Foundland's anthem. Of course, not having heard it before, it's probably just a a very moving sort of song but...
And it begs the question.... do all the provinces have their own anthem? I guess there's "Alberta Bound". I'm not sure if there is a Washington state anthem. I don't think you can count "The Bluest Skies you Ever Saw Are in Seattle". What about other states? "California Dreamin", oh, but I'm sure some of you could come up with a better song for California.
My Czech heritage was showing as I screamed for Ms. Neumannova to win the 30K cross country ski event. Her name also is easier to say than Ms. Tchepalova or Ms. Kowalczyk.. And her name reminds me of a favorite Seinfeld line, "Newman !"

Brrrrr. Nice and warm here, finally. Here is my FAVORITE Olympic story so far:
Streaker Runs Across Ice During Curling Match
Man Wearing Rubber Chicken Dances, Leaves Players Alone
PINEROLO, Italy (Feb. 24) - The men's bronze medal match Friday was interrupted by a streaker. Midway through the United States' 8-6 win over Britain, a man wearing what appeared to be a strategically placed rubber chicken ran onto one of the covered sheets of ice not being used in that session.
He danced around for a bit but never tried to approach any of the players.
Curlers probably feel a little safer than most athletes - it's hard for intruders to run across ice, especially if they're naked. John Shuster said he never felt in danger.
"Olympic security's been amazing here," he said. "We weren't worried at all."
A couple of security officials from the venue hovered near the streaker for several seconds before finally covering him and leading him away.
Well, I went looking on the net to see if I could find a clip of the kid singing the Newfoundland anthem (to play it for Molly, of course!). But, unfortunately did not find one. And even MORE unfortunately DID find a photo of the guy wearing the chicken. Not a pretty sight. Ann, perhaps you could record your own rendition of the kids' singing of the anthem and post it on your blog for our edification.
